Fall 2015 Beauty Report: Tricks For Post-Summer Hair Repair

After a season's worth of exposure to sun, salt water and frizz-inducing humidity, your mane is more than a bit worn out. The fall is the perfect time to start working on repairing the summer damage to your tresses. Celebrity hairstylist Richard Collins is responsible for creating some of the most gorgeous hair in Hollywood and knows what it takes to get it. Below, he shares his celeb hair care tips for getting your strands back in shape and maintaining a head of big, beautiful, healthy hair throughout the fall.

First and most importantly, Collins says, you must trim your hair at the beginning of the season. To keep those strands sexy, you should be trimming lightly every four to five weeks after that. Split-ends are a sure sign of unhealthy hair and although they start at the end as the term implies, they move up if you don't cut them off. The only solution is regular trimming. Even if you are trying to grow your hair out, regular trims are beneficial. Hair grows an average of about half an inch a month so you won’t lose much of your length and you'll give room for healthy strands to grow.

Next, make sure to protect your hair from heat styling. Heat damages hair. It dries, breaks and fries your hair, making it look brittle and limp. Collins says it’s important to prep your tresses with a product that protects it from the harshness caused daily by blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons. His favorite product to defend against this kind of damage is Schwarzkopf’s styliste ULTIME Crystal Shine & Hold Heat Protection Shine Spray. It replenishes moisture, defends against frying, and perks up wilted strands. Richard also suggests finishing your heat-styled look with a shine serum like Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME Diamond Color & Radiance Shine Boost Tonic for extra soft, smooth, shiny hair.

Last but not least - condition, condition, condition! Collins tells his A-list clientele that a weekly deep conditioning throughout the fall will keep follicles strong and hair from breaking so easily. Deep conditioning not only prevents and fights damage, but strengthens the hair. Even if you think you have little to no summer hair damage, deep conditioning is a great preventative to maintain beautiful locks. Collins recommends using Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME Omega Repair & Moisture Supreme Hair Treatment to repair and protect your hair against everyday damage. Make sure to pay special attention to your ends when applying it, and leave it on for a minimum of two minutes before rinsing.

Between the humid weather and the frequent beach and pool trips, your hair takes a serious beating during the summer months. But celeb stylist Richard Collins says there's still plenty of time to reverse the damage your mane has endured if you start working on it in the fall. Follow our insider guide and pick up some of your favorite Schwarzkopf products and you’ll be on your way back to your most gorgeous head of hair.
