People are still rocking grey hair and it’s just as chic as ever

The grey hair trend made its debut on the beauty scene several seasons ago and it’s still going strong through the end of fall 2016. What was once a nightmare hair problem that we rushed to rid ourselves of is now a hot trend with proven staying power. Grey hair is being coveted and replicated season after season, from the runways to the high streets, and there’s no doubt grey haired beauties will be rocking the look into the New Year. Grey is quirky and cool, but easy to dress around and doesn’t really pull your whole style in one direction or another.

But be forewarned - grey hair from the bottle is not a trend for the lazy beauty routine gal. While the grey hair trend can be difficult to achieve, the results are amazingly chic when done correctly. In order to go grey you have to be blonde first, so if you aren’t already, your stylist will need to pre-lighten your hair to a clean white blonde. Grey hair is one of the most difficult colours to achieve because it needs to be mixed using other colours to create the shade you desire.

Choose a hair colourist who has experience with platinum and gray or silver hair colour. This is not the time to choose a beginner colourist. Also, since it can be a bit difficult to translate to your colourist in words your exact desired shade of silver, definitely bring reference photos.

As for maintenance, to keep your grey colour from “fading” into a direction you don’t want, it will take some product manipulation. It’s a bit tricky because it’s not as simple as just using purple toning shampoo and calling it a day, like with platinum hair. Grey is so white it picks up what you put on it, so if you use purple shampoo and conditioner every time you wash your hair, your hair will likely turn lavender. It’s best to alternate using Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Omega Repair® Shampoo and Conditioner with a purple/blue toning shampoo and conditioner for a good balance.

Fully-fledged grey hairstyles have moved off the runways and into the everyday, with silver hair hues taking over social media, and street style stars and celebrities alike giving grey a go. Whether you embrace the trend with a full head of gorgeous grey or just let your naturally silver strands show through, you’ll be on-point through fall, because this look is here to stay. So schedule your appointment with an experienced colourist and load up on your Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Omega Repair® Shampoo and Conditioner and say hello to your new locks!
