Five ways to style a lob

By now, it’s apparent to anyone keeping track of hair trends that the lob (a long bob that can hit anywhere from your shoulder to your collarbone) isn’t going anywhere. Season after season, the lob has proven to be one of the chicest haircuts around, and part of its staying power is that it's a style that works for a low maintenance lifestyle. The lob is versatile, easy to style, and timeless. Check out our five favorite ways to style it.

SLEEK AND POLISHED

When you're styling a bob straight, you want it to look silky and polished but not boring. To get this look, start by spritzing your damp hair with Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME® Crystal Shine™ Heat Protection Spray through your hair, starting with the mid-lengths to avoid weighing down the roots. Blow dry your hair straight using a medium-size round brush, then smooth it with a flatiron. Finish by working Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Omega Repair™ 11-in-1 Leave-In through your mid-lengths and ends for softer hair with shine and flexibility.

SIDE-SWEPT WAVES

A messy side-swept wave is the ultimate cool-girl lob style. Next, twist sections of your hair with your hands before wrapping random sections loosely around a 1” curling iron. Make sure to wrap the hair in different directions so there's a bit of irregularity to it. Moving a large section of hair over to one side gives the illusion of fullness. The positioning here is crucial. Use the arch of your brow as a guide of where you want to flip your hair over. Then place the other side behind your ear for a casually chic effect.

RUMPLED TEXTURE

This laid-back look is one of our favourites. Not quite wavy but definitely not straight, it has a windblown, easy texture. The secret is keeping the ends really straight. You don't need a curling iron to get this type of gentle wave, instead use a flatiron. As you pull it down through the hair, bend it back and forth. About 1-2” from the bottom, stop bending the flatiron and just pull it through the ends straight for the blunt texture. Finish with Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME® Crystal Shine & Hold™ Hair Spray all over and a bit of Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Amber+ Oil Nutrition™ 60 Second Treatment on the ends.

BANGS

If you have an angular or heart-shaped face, side-swept bangs are a great way to soften it. To get this lob look, coat hair from roots to ends with Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME® Biotin+ Volume™ Mousse. Then rough dry hair with a diffuser and your hands, using a round brush only on the bangs to create a smooth, gentle curve. Use a curling to curl random 2” sections all over the rest of your head, turning them away from your face.

HALF-UP

The half-up hair trend works with just about any hair length, lobs included. Pull your hair back from about 2” above your ear. To create natural looking “S” shaped waves, wrap your hair section by section around the barrel of the curling iron in a downward spiral while holding the tool vertically to your face without letting hair overlap as you wrap it. Add a few spritzes of Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME® Biotin+ Volume™ Hair Spray all over to lock your half-up style in place.

The ever-chic lob isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so keep it looking fresh with your favorite products from our Schwarzkopf ULTIME lines along with these five trendy ways to style it.
