What a Difference a Dye Makes: New Hair New You

The New Year is the perfect time for a beauty overhaul. Most of us are looking to refresh our looks and make it our most beautiful year ever. The easiest way to do this is a trip to see your stylist at the salon. From rich, monochromatic browns, to platinum and rose gold blondes, a full color transformation or gradual ombre with subtle face framing highlights can be just what you need to shake things up in the New Year.

Celebrity hair stylist Richard Collins, who colors the tresses of some of Hollywood’s hottest ladies, has some advice before you take the plunge. He says the best way to change up your existing hue is to take your hair deeper while staying within your shade family, but do your homework. Research runway and celebrity inspired looks and bring a few pictures to your colorist as a starting point to make sure you are both on the same page visually.

When it comes to color, we all see it differently. Having pictures help to define the terms. There are so many amazing resources for inspiration today like fashion and beauty blogs, pinterest and of course fashion print magazines. Also think about maintenance. Is the change so dramatic that frequent salon visits are required to look fresh? Maintaining your color is something you need to be diligent about.

Once you've color-treated your hair, it's important to put extra care into hydrating and nourishing it. Always use products specifically designed for color-treated hair. Only color safe products have the technology to protect your color and keep it vibrant and fresh. Richard recommends the Schwarzkopf Diamond Color and Radiance line. Wait two or three days before shampooing the first time to allow the color to absorb completely. And keep in mind that hot water can be particularly damaging to hair that has been colored, so use cooler water when shampooing. Also make sure you condition every day, as colored hair needs extra moisture to keep it soft and smooth.

Make this year your most beautiful yet with a hair makeover that shines. Just be sure to protect your new look with the Schwarzkopf Diamond Color Radiance line!
