Five ways to update your topknot this season

Any cool girl worth her salt knows that a topknot is an essential hairstyle to have in her rotation. Heavily trending season after season, the topknot has become a staple on the beauty scene. But like most trends with staying power, if it’s rocked enough, the beloved topknot can get a little boring. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to shelve everyone’s favorite hairstyle just yet. We have five updates to the classic ‘do that will keep your topknot looking fresh through the summer.

SLEEK TOPKNOT

It doesn’t get much sexier than a very tight, very smooth, and very high topknot. To get that tight-against-the-head effect without making your hair look stiff, try concocting you own hair-product cocktail by mixing Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME Diamond Color Shine Spray and Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Amino-Q Hold Hairspray in your hands. Pull your hair into a top knot at the crown of your head and secure it tightly. Finish your sleek topknot by spraying both products all over the finished style for an extra dose of shine.

HALF-UP TOPKNOT

To get the half-up topknot, or half-bun or “hun”, as it’s sometimes called, use a large-barrel curling iron to create loose waves beginning at the mid-length of your hair. Then combine one dollop each of Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Amino-Q Hold Mousse and styliste ULTIME Amino-Q Hold Gel in your hands and rake them through the front top section of your hair. Then comb that portion into a tight half-up ponytail before twisting the ends up into a tight bun and pinning it in place.

ADD FAUX FRINGE

Investing in clip-in bangs will totally transform your topknot. They’re usually inexpensive and can be found at most beauty supply stores, and are super easy to use. Once you’ve found a fringe that's customized to your color and a face-flattering length, all you have to do is clip them in, zhoosh them up a bit, add a few spritzes of Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Biotin+ Volume Hairspray and voilà, updated topknot.

DO A BRAID VERSION

Braids are always hot, so why not use one to raise the bar on your topknot?! Just throw your hair into a high ponytail then braid it. Now it's time to pancake, which means pulling at the edges of plait to flatten it. This will create a larger, more flexible braid that's easier to pin into your knot. Extra points for edgy, pointy ends sticking out!

ADD A BOW

A great accessory can really dress up a topknot. Tying a bow around your otherwise humble knot will give it an instant boost of glam, making your look black-tie worthy. Just grab a vintage scarf or a simple piece of ribbon, and put it to good use, making sure to leave the ends loose and floppy. A perfect bow looks too prim.

Modernize your favorite ‘do this season and look hot all summer long. Grab all your favorites from the Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME line and rock that knot. With our five updates, your topknot will be anything but boring!
