The cool girl’s guide to 2016-2017 winter hair

What are the hottest hair colour and cut trends of the 2016-2017 winter season? We have the lowdown on what’s big this winter for hair colour, cut, and care. Let us help you heat up your hair game as the temperatures drop.

Purples of All Shades

If you thought purple was on its way out, think again. From deep purple to the lightest of lavenders, those who dare to rock fantasy colours are still asking for different shades of purple the most. We are seeing plenty of sultry violets and rich lavenders to muted lilacs.

Vibrant Reds

While purples and violets are the obvious reigning choices for today’s hair colour daredevils, deep, vibrant reds are still super chic for the more reserved. Try color ULTIME® 5.29 Vintage Red for a brighter colour, or color ULTIME® 5.22 Ruby Red for a darker hue. Regardless of the shade you choose, wonderfully warm reds are perfect to try out during the chillier months. Reds are also a more subdued trend to try out if you tend to be more conservative with your look.

Muted Oranges

If you’re looking for something flirty and playful, highlights of marigold and muted orange are the perfect option to warm up your look this season. You can opt for a bolder look by going full tangerine with a shade like color ULTIME® 8.4 Light Copper Red, or add hints of sun-gold for a subtler style. Either way, you can’t go wrong with this shade for winter.

Shags and Fringes

In terms of cuts, all things choppy and textured are major this season. Mullets, shags, and bangs are standing strong in today’s hair world. Not ready to make a drastic chop? Bangs are also versatile. We’re seeing longer styles complemented with short and bi-level fringes. Short bangs on particularly long hair gives the illusion of edginess while still maintaining length.

The Bob

If a choppy texture isn’t for you, fear not. Strong, solid-shaped cuts are also on the rise. We are seeing a shift in the short hair trend move from messy lob to blunt bob this season. There’s nothing quite as chic as the juxtaposition of a strong, masculine shape on a soft, feminine face.

Depending on how you choose to update your hair for winter, you can end up causing a bit of damage—especially if your new colour choice entails using bleach. Keeping your locks looking lovely throughout the colder months of the season can be quite the task, which is why it’s so important to winterize them. We recommend using products from the Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Omega Repair® line to moisturize damaged, depleted hair and products from the Schwarzkopf essence ULTIME® Diamond Color® line for coloured, highlighted hair. Both will help keep your freshly cut and coloured strands vibrant, healthy looking, and moisturized.

Lastly, never underestimate the power of a do-it-yourself hair mask. Try a simple two-ingredient moisturizing mask made of egg and avocado. Mix half an avocado and two egg yolks well, and slather it all over your hair, wet or dry. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing and washing it out of your hair.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone this winter and try one of the season’s hottest hair trends! After all, Schwarzkopf has you covered.
